Description: STK: #BAYO-10 Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI 1908 US Army Hospital Corps Model 1904 Springfield Armory Machete Knife & 1904 Rock Island Arsenal Leather Sheath Manufacturer: Springfield Armory / Rock Island Arsenal Model: 1904, Hospital Corps >--> Condition: Good - Very Good Blade Length: 12" TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI era Springfield Armory Model 1904 Hospital knife and sheath. Beginning in 1907 the manufacturers and flaming bomb were added to the knives. Beginning in 1909 the scabbards were fitted with a steel belt loop and brass throat. This one has the original leather belt loop. Overall, this knife is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age. The brass guard is securely fastened to the tang. It has handling marks and scrapes. The color has started to tarnish. The three rivets securely fasten the finger grooved wood grip to the tang. They have started to tarnish with age. The wood has light compressions and a couple draglines. The finger grooves are distinct. The spine and sides have handling marks, light oxidation, discoloration and some gunk stuck to the sides. The blade has no nicks or dings and appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a dull round point. The finish is in the white, but not a lot of it remains. The left side ricasso is marked "S.A." (Springfield Armory) over a flaming bomb and "1908". The right ricasso is marked "U.S. / 7565". The leather scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age. The belt hook hanger is securely attached, but the leather is brittle and starting to tear at the top and midway down. We recommend NOT using the belt loop. There are wrinkles and light finish loss. It is securely attached to the body. The metal locket is securely attached to the leather body and has some light scrapes. The body has light scrapes and draglines but no rips or tears. The stitching is sewn tightly and the finish is mostly intact with a few dark spots towards the bottom. The back of the scabbard has markings on the frog, "ROCK ISLAND / ARSENAL / 1904 / T.C." and on the body "J.L.M.". This Medical Corps knife and scabbard will be a great addition to your WWI medical collection, or a knife collection in general.
