Description: STK: #BAYO-4Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera WWI US Army M1903 & M1 Garand Rifle M1905 Rock Island Arsenal Sword Bayonet & Leather Scabbard Manufacturer: Rock Island Arsenal Model: M1905 >--> Condition: Very Good Plus - Fine Blade Length: 15.75" TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI M1903 bolt action rifle and M1 Garand self loading rifle M1905 Rock Island Arsenal sword bayonet and scabbard. President Roosevelt rejected the M1892 bayonet because it was thought of as being too short for the M1903 rifle. The M1905 was a longer version and it also incorporated a mechanism for locking the bayonet to the scabbard. It also was designed with a screw to hold on the grips instead of rivets. Two manufacturers manufactured the bayonet - Rock Island Arsenal and Springfield Armory. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good Plus - Fine condition, considering its age. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have light handling marks and the color has turned a dark patina color. The escutcheon screw securely fastens the two (2x) grip panels. It has a strong slot. The grips have compressions, drag lines and a crack on the left panel. It has darkened with age. The spine has nicks and dings, the sides and fullers have light scrapes, most notably on the sides. There are a few light nicks and dings on the edge and the blade has been sharpened at some point, it doesn't have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. Some of the coloring still remains, most notably in the fuller. The left ricasso is marked "R.I.A." over a flaming bomb, which is over "1907". The right ricasso is marked "US" over the serial number "106815". The scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, mainly due to its torn/missing frog. The metal tabs to secure the bayonet are functional. The locket has scattered spots of oxidation. It is securely attached to the leather body. The leather body has draglines, tears, partially cut out pieces (just the surface - possibly for a tag?) and scrapes. The stitching is sewn tightly. Part of the finish still remains and there is etched writing, see description below. There are faint etched markings on the leather that are hard to read, it looks like "FX DE CHARLEMONT / GEVET FRANCE" next to "1942-1945" and "JOHN E DANIELS". The other side of the bayonet is marked "1945'?' / SCOTLAND / ENGLAND / FRANCE / BELGIUM / HOLLAND / LUXEMBURG / GERMANY / 1946 / *". They are very faint and you have to look at an angle to see them. Hopefully we got it all correctly. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your WWI rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
