Description: Airframe from RAF Mosquito DZ609 , No.139 Squadron , RAF Upwood . Shot down by a German Nightfighter Ace on the 12th June 1944 whilst on a raid to Berlin . Just 5 days after D-Day this plane took off on the 11th June at 23:25 from Cambridgeshire as part of a force of 33 Mosquito’s tasked with marking/bombing a target in Berlin . At 01:13 on the 12th , DZ609 was intercepted west of Salzwedel Germany by Oberleutnant J.Nabrich and his Bordfunker Feldwebel F.Habicht flying a Heinkel He 219 Uhu of NJG 1. The action report states that the He 219 fired two bursts and the Mosquito was seen to go down vertically before exploding below the cloud cover . Mosquito aircrew ; Pilot : Fl./Lt.C.A.Armstrong D.FM. M.I.D R.N.Z.A.F Age 26 K.I.A. Navigator : F/o G.L.Woolven R.A.F.V.R. Age 27 K.I.A. He 219 Aircrew ; Oberleutnant Nabrich was killed on the 16th December 1944 when his car was strafed by allied fighters at Munster-Handorf .At the time of his death he had 17 confirmed and 4 unconfirmed victories . Feldwebel Habicht was seriously wounded on the 3/4th February 1945 when his He 219 was shot down by return fire from a Lancaster over Roermond.
