Description: You are bidding on an EXCELLENT and VERY RARE example of WW2/ Post-War US Navy M422A / G-1 Leather Flight Jacket! The M422A leather jacket became standard issue to USN and USMC aircrews throughout the war Easily confused with its predecessor, the M-422, the M-422A had the addition of the pencil slot in the left pocket (hence the added A designation). Just like other flight jackets of the time, each M422A jacket maker had their own particular nuances, adding to the variances. The M422a version of the jacket became officially recognized on the 1st of October 1941. In 1941 when American volunteers offered to assist the Chinese in the fight against the Japanese, the pilots who flew the P-40 shark mouth fighter aircrafts were provided with the M422a jackets which the National Chinese government had bought for the purpose. The G1 jacket is a modified product of the M422a jacket. It has undergone series of testing and continuous standard modifications even up to contemporary times. But then, the jacket still maintains the basic designs and the production materials such as the goatskin, the mouton sheepskin, and the wool knit. Made of leather goatskin, a mouton collar, and wool cuffs, this item is in SUPERB used condition! Some marks and wear, but nothing that detracts. Cuffs show some holes and tears from use in combat, but that is quite typical for the age. Main zip appears to be the original, however the pull tab has been replaced. Still retains all the original buttons. Appears to have had a Squadron Patch sewn onto the back, as well as a Name Tag on the left breast. Inside flap features a prominent "USN". Manufacture label and size (40) are still present on the interior, and it is still fully lined with the original rayon! This is an ORIGINAL item marked and issued as a size "40". Please DO NOT contact me for specific measurements (arm length, sleeve, shoulder, etc.), as these WERE NOT custom tailored - if you are a 40" chest, then this is what you were issued. I have shown this EXACT type of jacket being worn in the last images. A PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
