Description: Camp Dix Pictorial Review, volume 1, #2 for February 20, 1918. Staple-bound, 16 pages. Measures about 15 3/4" x 10 7/8". Issued during World War I for the soldiers stationed at Camp Dix (later Fort Dix), this large-sized, glossy publication features large, clear photos of officers, soldiers, and their surroundings at the camp. The center page includes panorama photographs of part of Camp Dix, the 78th Division Headquarters Troop, and the 303rd Field Signal Battalion. Elsewhere in the magazine are photos of the 312th Infantry Band, the 303rd Engineers Band, and the 311th Infantry Band; an article on the training provided by Camp Boxing Instructor Jerome V. Jefferd; a photo of Camp Dix Football Star Lt. O.C. Anderson; a photo of Wrightstown, NJ under a mantle of snow during a quarantine; and numerous other interesting historic photos. Regarding the football star, Oscar Carl "Ockie" Anderson (1894 – 1962) played college football at Colgate University was selected as a first-team All-American in 1916 at quarterback. Anderson later played professional football for the Buffalo All-Americans of the American Professional Football Association (APFA)—now known as the National Football League. He was one of the leading scorers in the 1920 and 1921 APFA seasons. The magazine has been folded horizontally at the center, and there is a tear on one side of the fold measuring around 1 3/4". The spine has been mended with clear tape. There is occasional soiling, smudges, and discoloration. The magazine was printed on glossy paper so the pages remain supple.
