Description: WOODWARD & LOTHROP Vintage EUC Women's 10 Dark Purple Plum Velvet Velour Blazer For those of you who may not know, Woodward & Lothrop was a Mid-Atlantic department store chain. Their first location, built in 1887, was the first department store in the Washington, DC area. They were large and profitable up to the 1980s, when they ran into some problems and began closing stores. They filed for bankruptcy in 1994 and completed liquidation in 1995. Their label was known as a symbol of quality, and this blazer is a fine example of that. Based on a number of factors, it is most likely this was purchased from the store closest to the original owner, some time before they closed in the late 80s. Despite its age, its only flaw is one that is common with velvet - there are spots at the elbows that look lighter (see photo). I don't think it's worn away, but just pressed in a different direction so it catches the light differently. You can feel that there is still velvet there and you can see it when you move it around in the light. Because of where it is, it's not really terribly noticeable when you're wearing it.
