Wooden canteens of the US Army during the early 1800s were frequently painted a light blue color on which was painted the letters 'US' in red or brown.Suitable for many historical impressions from the early 1700s through Civil War period, our wooden canteen has metal bands and a wooden spout and stopper. The wood is unpainted and can be dyed, stained, or painted to suit one's preference or chosen historical impression. Each canteen comes complete with a canvas sling. The inside of the canteen has been treated with wax to help seal it. As is the case with all wooden canteens, they require maintenance and wetting in order to seal up fully. Or alternatively, food safe epoxy can be used to coat the inside and thus reduce the necessity for soaking.
