Description: For sale is an original oil on canvas New Hampshire New England landscape with homestead painting signed Geo B Goodall. We believe this to be for the New Hampshire textile tycoon and amateur artist George Benjamin Goodall (1851 - ? George Benjamin Goodall paintings have appeared at auction with most coming up for sale in the Northeast primarily in Maine and New Hampshire. Research shows that he studied in Belgium under the well-known Belgian artist Franz Richard Unterberger (1838 - 1902). He is best known for his businesses in the textile industry that made him a very wealthy man during his time making plush mohair and fabrics, much of which he sold to the burgeoning railroad industry. This painting features a view of an old stone house or homestead looking out an expansive landscape in the distance. Presumably a view in New Hampshire although a label on the reverse shows a Worcester Massachusetts painters supply company. An addition partial label is still affixed. When he returned to the United States Goodall went to work in the Sanford Mill under his father. Goodall would later go on to invent a power loom for mohair and eventually started equal partnership with his brothers and they begin the manufacturing of plush mohair fabrics in 1881. The company changed to Goodall Worsted Company. They supplied nearly all of the mohair for the Pullman railroad and nearly all other railroads in the country.
