Description: William Tecumseh Sherman [1820 1891] was an American soldier, businessman, educator and author who served as a general in the American Civil War. Sherman earned recognition for his command and military strategy, and his scorched earth policies against the Confederate States which is believed to have shortened the war. Sherman commanded XV Corps, the Army of the Tennessee and later served as the Commanding General of the U.S. Army from 1869 to 1883. Listed for auction is a framed display containing the autograph of General William Tecumseh Sherman. The display is centered around a colorized military photograph [7.00 x 9.00] of the general. Mounted below is his autograph signed on a transmittal envelope which contains the letterhead, Headquarters Army of the United States and is signed, W.T. Sherman General'' in black fountain pen. The panel is addressed [behind the matte] to the Minister of France, E.C. Washburne. The panel measures 4.50 x 2.25 inches with 3.50 x 1.50 displayed and is in fine condition. Mounted below is a professional engraved plaque, William Tecumseh Sherman 1820 - 1891. William Tecumseh Sherman was an American soldier, businessman, educator and author. He is well known for his service in the Union Army during the American Civil War. The general earned recognition for his command of military strategy, especially his scorched earth policies, which he implemented in his military campaign against the Confederate States. In 1869, he was appointed by President Ulysses S. Grant as the Commanding General of the U.S. Army and served until 1883. The display has been professionally assembled and double matted in a black swede outer matte and accented with a gold inner matte. The display has been completed in a black/gold ornate wood frame to the dimensions of 20.00 x 12.00 inches. The autograph is authentic, signed on a desirable letterhead, the display is very attractive and is a great example of this prominent American Civil War Union commander.
