Description: "Wild Scenes and Song-Birds" is a 347 page (plus xi and 20 plates), 6.75"x10.25" hardcover written by C. W. Webber, illustrated by Mrs. C. W. Webber and Alfred J. Miller, and published in 1854 (this is the first edition) by George P. Putnam & Co. (New York). The author discusses a variety of North American birds, some of which serve as subjects for thirteen of the chromolithograph plates; another two depict flowers. These are by Mrs. Webber, but of more interest are the five plates by Miller depicting Native American scenes. Two of these were altered in later issues to clothe the bare-breasted women. The book is in acceptable condition. The original gilt-decorated blue cloth boards are frayed at the extremities, rubbed at the edges, have small spots of wear and soiling elsewhere. The front hinge is starting to crack, and its cracked at pages 16 and 192. There's a bookplate, pencil mark and small sticker to the front pastedown, 1887 ownership mark and small pencil mark to the ffep. All plates are present.
