Description: Offered today this Victorian era Whiting INDIAN Sterling Silver Fish Knife / Master Butter Spreader in excellent estate condition. This lovely knife Pat.1874 is a stunning period piece with the floral and swag borders that grace the length of the handle on this solid sterling 7 1/4" knife. The sterling blade is hallmarked "Pat. 1874 & Sterling " surrounding the Whiting Mfg Lion and it has NO MONOGRAMS. This is a solid knife that could be used in many ways for serving these days from a butter knife to a cheese spreader and more at holidays and cocktail parties. For being almost 150 yrs old the condition of this knife is pretty amazing. It has been carefully washed leaving the nice warm silver patina with with some minimal surface wear scratches most notably on the blade portion from over 150 years of use and storage (as would be expected on used flatware of this age....it adds to the character). I NEVER BUFF OR USE MACHINE POLISHING, after all most want these antique vintage pieces to look natural and NOT NEW.
