Description: In the 1940s Western Auto began using the "Wizard" brand for tools. Sometime later the "Westcraft" brand was applied to presumed lower quality brand. Both Wizard and Westcraft were registered trademarks and were used on hand tools and other items thereafter. As with other contracting companies at the time (Sear/Craftsman, Montgomery Wards/Powr-Kraft, etc.) the tools were generally identical in functional capability while being less finished cosmetically. Vlchek Tool Company was one of the companies making tools for Western Auto. Its Wrenches can be identified (sometimes) in a few obvious ways. This small Wrench carries a Stamped-In letter “V” (for Vlchek) below the “Westcraft” name on the 5/16th End of the Wrench (see images). The Shank of the Wrench has a Forged-In number, typical of Vlchek products, and the Stamped-In number, ”W0810” (see images), which the Model Number used by Vlchek for this Wrench. Vlchek’s “W” line of Wrenches was introduced in the early 1930s and was a long-time product success. Examples of these wrenches can be found in catalogs of the mid-20th century at the Internet Archive (https://archive.org/details/internationaltoolcataloglibrary?tab=collection&query=vlchek). Our best guess for time of production is mid-20th Century, well before outsourcing became a way of marketing-life for Western Auto and other retail entities. The Ignition-size Wrench is in good condition except for some obvious loss of chrome plating (see images). It is straight and true and could work successfully on engines of that era. We will ship the Wrench by USPS Ground Advantage on the next regular business day following payment.
