Description: WEST AFRICAN WOODEN BAULE HAND CARVED COLONIAL FIGURES STATUES LAWYER & JUDGE. I believe these are original carved wooden figures from west africa, originated from the Baule people in Côte d'Ivoire. These wooden colonial figures, or "colons" were a response to the colonization of Africa. These two represent a lawyer and a judge. The Lawyer features the pith helmet, a symbol of colonial oppression, power, and racism across 19th and 20th century Africa. Wear to the statues with some dirtiness. No major chips to wood. Some chipping to the paint. Please see images. The Judge measures about 12.5"The Lawyer measures about 12.25"
