Description: The American Red Cross, also known as the American National Red Cross, is a non-profit humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and disaster preparedness education in the United States. It is the designated US affiliate of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Clara Barton established the American Red Cross in Dansville, New York in 1881, and was the organization’s first president. The first local chapter was established in 1881 at the English Evangelical Lutheran Church of Dansville. Barton founded the American chapter after learning of the Red Cross in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1869, she went to Europe and became involved in the work of the International Red Cross during the Franco-Prussian War. Barton led one of the group’s first American major relief efforts, a response to the 1881 “Thumb Fire” in Michigan where over 5,000 people were left homeless. This is an uncredited card, but I would think that it was published by the Red Cross. There is no information on where the image was taken. I just think that it looks like Europe in the early 1900s. The card is a DB, 1907 -1915 which gives us a time frame. The card has a bent lower right corner but is otherwise in good condition with minor wear overall. The image is clean, clear, colored scene of people waiting for relief from war or some tragedy. The reverse has some staining, but the card is presentable and captures some early history. The colors on the card may vary due to the scanner settings and screen projections.Unless otherwise noted, I use Wikipedia, Playle's and Metropostcard for research and try to be as accurate as possible. Corrections appreciated. If this your card, it will be mailed promptly upon receipt of payment......
