Description: WEDGWOOD Historical Pitcher SHAWNEE MISSION, Kansas Wedgwood “Queensware” (earthenware) pitcher featuring a view of the Shawee Methodist Mission, East Building, constructed 1840-1841 and located in present-day Johnson County, Kansas. This pitcher marks the Centennial of the establishment of the at this site. The Mission served briefly (in 1855) as the second capital of the Kansas Territory. During the American Civil War, the site served as a camp for Union soldiers. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968. This pitcher was made in England by Wedgwood at their Etruria location, which closed in 1940. The pitcher was imported by Jones, McDuffee and Stratton (JM&S) of Boston whose “Sole Importers” seal appears on the bottom of the pitcher. JM&S commissioned a large selection of historical plates, jugs and other items. This jug measures 3 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide across the top from spout to handle. It is marked 1ST EDITION 1938.
