Description: Vtg Hand Painted GREEK IKAROS ART POTTERY PLATTER IZNIK STYLE Signed ShipA true work of pottery ArtSize 13.5" diameter and approx. 1.75" deep- this is the largest platter I've seen in this style, and the most detailed as well Thick, heavy pottery with a finished waved rim AND the back is painted with flowers as well- extremely rare.Handmade Rhodes Greece in the Iznik Turkish style. The Iznik [Ottoman] style of painting features vivid colors and distinctive patterning, notable swirling circles and stylized flowers & leaves. This platter has unusual 'evil eye' protector symbols on hull of ship and on sail. Fabulous. Hard to find, extremely collectible. Magnificent artwork and vivid colors/meticulous detailing. STUNNING artistic design, just gorgeous. When the light hits it, it just GLEAMSPlate has 2 molded holes in the back rim with a sturdy hanging wire through it, it is ready to hang! Excellent condition, no nicks chips cracks damage or wear but for a few very minor crazing lines which are virtually impossible to see, normal for age. A wonderful piece, would look beautiful hung on a wall or on a plate stand- Marvelous for a collector, and would make a thoughtful gift. ICAROS-IKAROS RHODES [1947-1988] pottery represents the island of Rhodes, Greece. They make up some of the most highly renowned Ceramic Art pieces in modern Greece. These Art creations were all by hand formed and hand painted. The art creations were made of hand molded clay, then hand drawn and painted in stunning colors in the manner of Iznik floral motifs including boats, birds/animals/fish etc. The company was hugely successful until its closure in 1988. Since that time, the fame of Rhodes ceramics has spread far and wide- today they are extremely popular and collectible. Icaros Rhodes Pottery pieces are featured in some of the world's finest museums, such as the Louvre, and of course, in individual collections worldwide.
