Description: Vtg 1930’s Art Deco Wood Millinery Hat Stand Display w Flapper Girl in Teal Dress Here is a wonderful hat stand from the Art Deco period. This is a wood stand painted teal, a classic color of the time. A hand painted wood cutout of a stylish woman of the era is the special feature of the piece. She is wearing a teal dropped waist dress with a flippy hem. A black capelet, belt, and heels accent her dress. Her black hair is bobbed. The University of Wisconsin Library has a very similar gray stand in its collection (item 2010.43.1a). The library’s stand is described as from 1920-1939. The woman on their stand is depicted wearing a gray coat. The hat dome and disc shaped base have the same form as our teal flapper’s stand. The stand is about 11.25” tall. The base disc is just under 3.75” in diameter. There are three visible metal pins that secure the figure to the stand. The pins are located roughly at her neckline, hip, and knee. I find no maker marks, but have seen similar stands marked as made in Germany. This stand is in great vintage condition. The wood joints are tight and solid. The paint is in nice condition with minor wear as expected for its age. The flapper is quite lovely! There is a bit of residue of something (perhaps an adhesive) on the very top of the stand.
