Description: This is a vintage 1960's military academy shako cap worn by student musicians in the marching band during performances. It is red and ivory with a large shiny metal American eagle badge, a metal brim chain, and two metal round side medallions at the end of the brim chain showing a lyre. The plastic chin strap is red with a metal buckle. The ivory portion of the cap has a clear plastic covering which has kept it clean. There is a place for a feather plume on the front of the cap top. There is an inscription in the plastic on the inside of the crown of the cap which identifies it as made by "W. Bayly & Son, Inc.", "Bayl-Stron", "Hollywood FLA." There is also a number inscribed there: "200". There is a patch stitched to the inside of the cap with the number "42". The bottom of the brim is inscribed "Starburst, IND. Made in U.S.A.". The cap does not have a size, but measures 9-1/4" long (without the brim) and 7-1/4" wide on the outside and 7-5/8" long and 6" wide on the inside at the bottom; the cap is flexible and has a compressible band to fit heads of different shapes and larger than these dimensions. It is about 6-3/4" tall at the peak, measured while sitting on the tabletop. The cap is in great shape. It is clean with a few marks and fine scratches on the plastic. The chin strap is in good shape and all the stitching is good as well. See high resolution photos for more and use the magnify feature.
