Description: Vintage sterling silver Vesta Case engraved "FROM MEMBERS OF SAN TOY GOLF CLUB TO F. J. HOPE CAPTAIN AUTUMN 1902" I did some research and found a Golf Illustrated with a small article and a photo of members INCLUDING F.J HOPE who this match safe was presented to. At one time I owned over 100 golf vesta cases, often engraved. I have never found a magazine article with a photo of the person named on the vesta case. Very very unusual and very unique The hallmark from Birmingham is 1902 and on one inner lip with the J.G. maker's name which is John Gilbert of Birmingham The inner lip on the other side looks to have an etching of L / H, possibly a relative who inherited this, also on that inner lip is an embossed W and I'm afraid I have no idea what that is for.
