Betsey Fowler was born in Peoria, Illinois, the only child of Lucinda Burhans, a well known European opera singer, and Ernest Burhans, a surgeon. Both parents were lovers of the arts as well as avid conservationists, spending much of their time working on projects to save endangered species and traveling around the world with their daughter. Betsey M. Fowler began serious sketching and painting at the age of ten, traveling the world with her parents. Subsequently she attended top art schools across the country and holds two masters degrees in art. In the late 1960's, Betsey Burhans married Jim Fowler. Jim is a naturalist and PHD Zoologist best known and famous for the co-star of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom and the wildlife correspondent for the Today Show. He was also a popular regular on the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. Betsey expresses her love of life in these portraits of people, landscapes and wildlife. Her drawings are done while traveling and observing wonderful things and people all across the world. She feels blessed to have lived this life of adventure and art with her family and friends.
