Description: Selling a rare fully bound copy of Arizona Highways for the year 1961, January through December. It is a beautiful but flawed thing: the book is covered in what seems to be leatherette, and the front cover has a fabulous embossed desert scene featuring saguaro and mountains, while the rest of the cover is textured to feel like tree bark. All the lettering on the cover is nicely finished in silver. The binding is still holding fast, and there are no missing pages. The book is filled with beautiful photographs and gorgeous illustrations, as well as many maps and fascinating articles some with three panel fold-outs. It really is a beautiful book. Now to the flaws: At some time during its 63 years, it suffered water damage. All of January has water damage to the right bottom corner of the facing page (bottom left of the opposing page). Other than the staining all of the text is still clearly legible, and the photographs are still vivid. As soon as we get to February, the water stains disappear all the way until December where we start to see signs of water damage again. In December, the water had caused some pages to stick together. The majority of them came apart with no consequence, however the December cover page was stuck to the last November page quite firmly causing the damage you see in the last three photographs. Once again, all text is legible and the vast majority of the photographs are still bright and vivid. As you can see in the photographs of the top and bottom of the book, the moisture caused some warping of the covers. It does not draw attention to itself while you are reading the book, and is only visible from the top or bottom view. Besides the water damage, the white pages are starting to yellow with age, and there is some occasional, slight fraying along the edges of some pages - but nothing serious. One of my favorite things about the book is the notes for photographers page at the end, which details the type of camera, lens, aperture settings, light conditions and the location of the camera. The attention to detail is incredible. If you can see beyond its flaws, this is a lovely thing and will make a great addition to any collector of ephemera from the American West. Please leave feedback.
