Plumb, Inc., which resulted in the company's forced name change from Plvmb to Proto. Furthermore collector's recognize the transition in tools, logos, etc in the brief time span allotted for the re-branding to occur. The Amalite-handled screwdrivers are a further example of the company's transition. Typically, the Plvmb brand name appears on the orange or amber colored handles, and later the Proto name appears on a very similar screwdriver design, but with a yellow Amalite handle. Rarely do you find Plvmb-branded screwdriver with an Amalite-yellow handle. When one does run across these rarities, it is almost always the slotted variation. Because the Plvmb name largely disappeared from new production of the now-PROTO company tools by 1950 and the wide use of the Phillips screwed didn't become popular until around the same time, the yellow-Amalite handled, Plvmb-branded screwdrivers with Phillips head is a truly rare find.
