Description: Dating from the Art Deco period, this lovely and unusual vintage silverplate butter dish would make any meal special. It is globe-shaped with four slender legs, each with brackets attached to the bottom of the dish and flowers dropping from each bracket. There is traditional engraving on the globes top that is easily raised and lowered with a small, pretty feather-like tab. Along the edge of the rim are pronounced and raised beads. This beaded trim was a trademark of the firm. Inside the dome rests its original pressed-glass dish for butter, caviar or condiments. Certainly, it is the height of elegant Victorian-style entertaining. The Pinder Brothers mark is engraved on the bottom of the base: Pinder Bros. Ltd., England. Like many silver and silverplate manufacturers, the firm was based in Sheffield and was producing a large selection of wares since 1877, many based on traditional designs. The condition is excellent. It is unusual to have the original glass dish. It hardly appears to be used at all. This is a beautiful quality example. It measures about 5 inches in diameter and 4-¼ inches high. Personal and cashier’s checks also accepted. Please contact for international shipping rates, as well as to Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories.
