Description: Vintage Art Glass Katydid Vase Description and Item Information Up for sale is this Phoenix / Consolidated art glass vase. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This vase has textured patterns of katydids on leaves. The glass has a brownish coloration applied to the surface in most areas; one might call this color sepia. The vase is approximately 7 inches tall, 8 1/8 inches long, and 4 1/8 inches wide. It weighs 2 pounds 10.3 ounces, unpacked. The top rim is factory ground and polished. This would be a fine addition to a collection of vintage American art glass. Identification This unsigned, vintage vase is an example of glass by Phoenix or Consolidated. This shape was designed by Reuben Haley after he saw Lalique vases on display in 1925. The pattern is known as Katydid. I am not an expert, but this piece looks more like the Phoenix Reuben Line than the Consolidated Martele line to me; the buyer should decide for themselves which is the proper identification. Condition The vase has no cracks. There are a few very small flakes to the ground and polished upper rim. The colored finish is in very good condition overall, with a few short scratches. There are wear scratches to the base, as expected for vintage glass. The interior is unstained. Variations in the color application are as made.
