Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi before Statehood, Ed Furuike was always interested in art but never pursued that interest. In 1975 he studied for one year with renowned artist Hiroshi Tagami who encouraged Ed to continue painting with a palette knife. Immediately connecting with a palette knife Ed painted every morning and late in the afternoon after his full time job. His paintings began attracting the eyes of collectors from all over the world through various art exhibitions throughout the state and as a permanent artist at the Honolulu Zoo Fence Art for 30 years. "I believe Faith, Passion and Fun are key in life to achieve anything worthwhile."In 1988, Ed began promoting art awareness through teaching art classes, group and solo exhibitions, art expositions and demonstrations in the public schools. "Paint with your soul....and with passion", is his mantra to his students.Ed moved to California in 2001 where he found much acceptance of his work through galleries and solo expositions including San Francisco, Sausalito, Tiburon, St. Helena and Napa Valley. In 2007, Ed returned to Hawaiʻi and now lives on the windward side of Oʻahu where the Koʻolau Mountains continue to inspire his creativity.Ed has painted over 4,000 paintings, many of which hang in prominent corporate and private collections in Hawaiʻi and throughout the world. The image of one painting graces the cover of Hawaiian history reference book, "A History of Hawaiʻi" which is used by Hawaiʻi public and private schools. Painting and teaching have expanded his world tremendously. They have enriched Edʻs journey in relationships with nature and people through experiences which he will treasure always. He says he has been so fortunate in finding what he absolutely loves to do and being able to make a living at it. "Through art, I found my joy!".
