Description: This vintage National No 9 skillet dates to 1930s-1940s and is in excellent restored condition. There were only four sizes for this series of skillets, a No 6, 7, 8 and the largest in the series a No 9. All Wagner cast iron produced before WWII were just as fine in quality as any Griswold piece. The skillets in this series featured a much lighter feel compared to other skillets of the same size and shorter side walls as well. The cooking surface has a light utensil scores and fine patches of etching from corrosion. These are nearly undetectable as you glide your fingers over a very smooth surface. Six sheets of printer paper slipped under one edge on the bottom stops movement on a granite surface. No chips, cracks or repairs and does not spin.Test for flatness of skillet. With the skillet resting on a polished granite surface, press down all along the top rim searching for movement. If movement is found, slip pieces of printer paper under one edge of the until pot stops moving. This item was stripped down to bare metal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. This process ensures the removal of all residue from previous use making it safe to use once more. The item is lightly seasoned with one round of Crisco at 450 for 1 hour. This item was photographed in very bright light to highlight fine details. Under these lighting conditions, items may take on a brown color. Items are much darker under normal light.
