Description: ESTATE CLEARANCE Beautifully engraved vintage Middle Eastern letter opener, solid eastern silver (not magnetic), not hallmarked. Front is intricately engraved with a scene of dhows, mosque, palm trees. The back is plain with no engraving. The tip has a slight bend but otherwise the letter opener is in very good condition with no other dings or dents and typical minor scratches for its age (70 years). Please see photos for condition. The opener is 5 3/4 in or 14.5 cm in length, and weighs 24.3g of solid silver. Dated circa 1953-1955, the letter opener comes from the estate of the wife of an RAF officer stationed in Iraq who traveled extensively in the Middle East. Possibly acquired on a trip through Jordan to Jerusalem. A fine example of vintage Middle Eastern handicraft that is very unique and collectable.
