Description: There once was an adventurous Alaskan lady who was a real globetrotter. But for all her traveling & all the places she visited, her real soft spot was Norway. Boy was she keen on that place & oh, how she shopped! When she made her final voyage & headed off to Valhalla, or one of the other nine realms or wherever, she left behind a whole ‘lotta Norway… & now we have it. This is just one item from a portion of her collection that we will be listing, to move on to the loving hands of those who also adore Norway, Norwegian culture & in this case, spectacular work by some of the most notable Norwegian silversmiths. Please see our eBay store & other listings for more goodies from the beautiful & unique land of Norway. Our fair traveler left us some incredible sterling silver jewelry from the likes of N. M. Thune, Ivar Holth, Juhls Kautokeino, Sylvsmidja, Finn Jensen, N.A. Jorgensen, David Andersen & Arne Nordlie, along with some mystery pieces which I am still working to identify. I chose my “keepers” (of course I had to keep the David Andersen Viking Ship earrings!) & now it is time to find the people to whom the other pieces truly belong. This is precious stuff - just amazing handiwork & often absolutely mind blowing designs (particularly the modernist/brutalist works). ABOUT THIS ITEM: Ivar T. Holth established his company, Ivar T. Holth Silversmith, in Oslo, Norway, in 1943. He was an accomplished silversmith who received his education at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in Oslo (in contrast to many of his contemporaries who received their training exclusively through apprenticeships). Holth was particularly known for his precise, detailed craftsmanship & his signature style of intricately designed guilloché enamel. In this particular art form, he was considered among the most talented & visionary. Holth quickly gained recognition for his exceptional creations, captivating the attention of both domestic & international admirers. His work is considered to have a perfect fusion of traditional Norwegian craftsmanship & modern aesthetics — pieces of elegance & harmonious composition. Along with his famous enamel work, the company produced traditional Norwegian søljes & modernist pieces, particularly during the midcentury era. Per Holth (sometimes referenced as "Per Holt") took over management of the workshop in the late 1970s & remained in charge until 2007 when the company ceased production. Holth's innovative designs & commitment to exceptional craftsmanship earned him numerous accolades & a devoted following. His work has become highly sought after by collectors. The makers mark used by the workshop to insure authenticity was an "H" within a circle with 830S NORWAY, or 925S STERLING. It really doesn't get more Ivar Holth than this abstract, mid century modernist guilloché enamel brooch & earrings set in absolutely luscious cobalt blue. The ribbon-like flowing lines with the underlying geometric designs are just signature work from this premier Scandinavian artist. Of course with all Holth’s enamel work, it is of the highest quality - sterling silver, hallmarked & stamped with the maker’s mark. The set probably dates from the 1960's, based on the dates we found cited by antique jewelers for these exact pieces. This set would be an amazing addition to your collection of Norwegian silver, an antique & vintage jewelry collection or to flaunt your exceptional taste & modernist style! The shape of the clip earrings resembles that of an upside down letter Q or a ribbon that has been looped through once. Their clip hinges are nice and tight. They measure 2.5 cm tall & 1.3 cm wide (measuring the oval part only). The brooch can be worn in either in a horizontal or vertical orientation (it isn’t completely clear to me which side is intended to be the top). It measures approximately 5.7 cm long & about 3 cm high (these were awkward to measure, so please see photos for perspective). These are solid pieces weighing about 0.5 oz altogether. This set is in excellent condition, but let's discuss polishing: We believe in letting the buyer make their decisions as to how to manage the polishing (or not polishing) of silver, thus I DID NOT POLISH this pin. It has been washed with gentle soap & buffed with soft cloth (similar to chamois or eyeglasses cloth). Our fair traveler took incredibly good care of all of her things but as you can see from the photos, the brooch has some places with tarnish on the back near the soldering sites (some of the darkening may be a result of the soldering & not tarnish) & the earrings have a few spots that could use some cleanup, or not (see photos). We try to photograph jewelry in a variety of lighting conditions & with different backgrounds since it is always challenging to communicate the complexity of color & design through photographs online. We hope these photos are useful to you. If you need photos taken in a different set of conditions, please message us. :) Feel free to message us with questions. We combine shipping. Thank you for looking. :) NOTE: We nearly always offer the choice of USPS Ground Advantage or USPS Priority Mail. Please be aware that sometimes Ground Advantage has delays leaving Alaska. If your aren't in a hurry, it is a great way to save money on shipping! If you have a pressing need, we suggest you consider the Priority Mail option. riekenaandthejujubees thank you for looking!
