Description: Vintage Hardy Bros. St. John Fly Fishing Reel w/ Box 2 Screws L558 We’re selling off our collections and today’s offering is vintage used (very gently) Hardy Bros. St. John 3 7/8” Fly Fishing Reel with Box and Cortland ST10S 444 Shooter line (per label) and backing loaded. This reel is marked ““Made by Hardy Bros., England, The “St. John.”” It’s the 2-screw model made after 1949. Nice sound from the click and pawl drag system with the milled rim tension adjusting thumb screw. It has the bow tie style pillars. This reel has spent most of its life in it’s original box. The display stand is not included. Condition: The Reel: In excellent+ used condition. The line is aged but seems usable. The backing is red mono of unknown age & type. The foot has a slight rod mounting mark on 1 of the 4 corners. When held at angle in the light, a slight & spotty dulling of the finish is seen on the spool (not on the frame); around the frame’s axle facing outward there is a discoloration which appears to be dried on grease or other substance (not rust). Both the dulling and discoloration are also seen on other excellent St. Johns of this vintage. The Box: In Very Good condition. Structurally sound with no loose corners and a very good display of the Hardy slogan on the box top. Otherwise it shows wear and rubs. The Hardy box covering of that era is peeling and bent on the bottom and on 2 sides and the bottom. The cardboard & baton packing material has done its job protecting the reel. (See pictures). Overall this is an excellent+ Hardy Bros. fly reel. Display it in your collection or take it to the next Salmon or Steelhead run in your favorite waters.
