Boy was she keen on that place & oh, how she shopped! When she made her final voyage & headed off to Valhalla, or one of the other nine realms or wherever, she left behind a whole ‘lotta Norway… & now we have it. This is just one item from a portion of her collection that we will be listing, to move on to the loving hands of those who also adore Norway, Norwegian culture & most especially, their Trolls. These two are super cute, but let's put on the brakes for just one moment to get some facts straight: "The popular image of the strapping Viking in a horned helmet dates back to the 1800s, when Scandinavian artists like Sweden’s Gustav Malmström included the headgear in their portrayals of the raiders. When Wagner staged his “Der Ring des Nibelungen” opera cycle in the 1870s, costume designer Carl Emil Doepler created horned helmets for the Viking characters, and an enduring stereotype was born." (History dot com) In fact, the only complete Viking helmet found thus far (dated 10th-century) was discovered in 1943 on a farm in Norway. It has a rounded iron cap, a guard around the eyes/nose and... no horns! Own a piece of not-exactly-history (or a piece of Norway!) with this pair of adorable pewter keychains crafted by the renowned Norwegian metalsmith company Tinn-Per. (They make really amazing stuff!) I believe they are handmade, but I cannot read their website because it's in Norwegian. (Other parts of the internet say they are handmade, though.) This pewter couple does not seem to be in production any longer and given the age of the previous owner, I'm calling them vintage. Like all good pewter, they are quite heavy. If you don't need a keychain, you could easily remove the fobs and thread them with a leather thong or heavy chain and use them pendants if that's your thing. Or, they might make nice lamp chain pulls. They are in excellent pre-owned condition (see photos for detail). Feel free to message us with questions. We combine shipping.
