Description: Vintage Fashion Cut Plug Tobacco Lunchbox Pail Style Tin circa Early 1900s. Found at an estate sale of a collector of old Lunchbox tins. This listing is for Antique Fashion Cut Plug Smoking Tobacco Tin Lunchbox Can. This tin measures 7 7/8" long x 5 1/4" wide x 4 1/4" tall. Featured is a antique tobacco tin lunch box from the American Tobacco Company which was based in Chicago, Illinois. This tin features a bright image of a fashionably dressed woman and man on their way to some exotic destination most likely. This brand was one of the companies’ major sellers along with the Miners Extra Long Cut brand. There is a metal clasp to close the lid and the lid is hinged on one end. This is a great old lunch box style tin with graphics on the Tin Tobacco box. It has a swing bale handle. The clasp to hold the top lid works fine. Overall, the tin is in good condition for its age. There are some scratches, scuffs, and rust on the tin. The bottom of the lunchbox has been replaced with a wooden bottom. However, considering its age, it shows and displays very well and would make a great addition to anyone’s lunch or tin Pail collection. History: Many Cut Plug tobacco tins doubled as lunchbox/pail tins and were used by children to take their lunches to school in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. They marched off to school hauling their tobacco lunch pails made out of a colorful tin that had convenient wire handles on the top for carrying. This fashion tobacco brand tin represents a very colorful box with great eye appeal, In addition, many men carried their lunches to work in these metal tobacco tins. It was considered a clue that the family did not have enough money to purchase a hot meal. In spite of that, school-aged children wanted to mimic their fathers and used the same lunch caddies made from their pop’s old tobacco tins. Interestingly, the neighborhood general stores did not really care for the lunch box style tobacco tins because the tins were difficult to stack on shelves due to the wire handles.
