Description: Up for sale is a very unique piece of art pottery that is the size of a ceremonial tea cup. It has detailed carved fish and flowers around the entire piece and looks like the cizhou ware technique was used. The design appears to be carved into the pottery showing a slip color of a dark brownish underneath. This is the technique used for creating cizhou ware. However, it also show’s attributes of the Sgraffito technique used. Regardless, it is a very Stunning piece of work. It is marked on the bottom with two oriental letters but I’m unable to decipher them. I have no idea to the age of this piece, either, as many old oriental wares don’t show their age. I do believe it is vintage, possibly from the 1960-1970s. I believe it could have been created at the Chicago Institute of Art, but again, I am not certain of that. I have acquired many unique studio art pottery pieces over the years and numerous pieces have been traced back to the Chicago Institute of Art. I couldn’t find anything similar to this item in my research books or online using image search, so it appears to be one of a kind! In excellent condition with no chips or cracks or hairlines. It will definitely be a unique addition to anyone’s home and will add the perfect touch to your home decor. Measures 3” High with a 3” diameter at top and a 1 3/4” diameter base.
