Description: Baby doll commercially named the Bye Lo Baby, consisting of a bisque porcelain head and jointed body with delicately painted hair and facial features. The back of the body is marked "Copr. by Grace S. Putnam". The doll is dressed in a long gown with a bouquet of flowers. The year of manufacture for this doll is unknown due to the joints being in great shape (see picture). In 1920, during a visit to the Salvation Army, Mrs. Putnam got the idea for the Bye Lo Baby. She saw a three day old baby girl and was inspired to create a life like baby doll. Using the infant as a model she sculpted the babies likeness in clay while the baby slept. She later had it molded and sent the mold to Germany to produce her first doll.
