Description: This is a vintage brown and gold faux tortoise shell hair receiver. It has a round bottom and an octagon shaped lid. Hair receivers were common on the dressing tables of ladies from the Victorian era through the 1950's. They were used to collect hair from combs and brushes to use for filling pincushions or small pillows, making hair art, or creating elaborate hair styles. The opening in the center of the lid is 1 1/4", and the lid measures 5" across. The bottom is 4 1/2" in diameter. The box stands1 3/4 tall. The lid has a delicate metallic gold filigree design and pinstripe around the rim, and is monogrammed in gold stylized letters that look like "NGR". This piece is in very good vintage condition, but has some wear on the finish, and a few scratches and scuffs. I've included a picture of one scratch that resembles a hairline, but does not extend through to the inside. There's also a small, circular dent on the interior. It's a pretty container that could be used to hold a variety of small items. It displays beautifully! Thank you for your interest in my item!
