Antique, or antique-looking, cast iron trivets that were designed to be used with a hot "sad iron" or antique, old-fashioned solid cast iron clothes iron.They display well whether they are hanging or setting flat ... andmake a nice addition to primitive, country, or early American decor. Only mentioning "antique-looking" because I don't know when these stopped being produced and the fancier one of the two appears to have less wear to its surface than the "W" one. The smaller, lighter of the two trivets is the one with the "W".This "W" one appears to be the older (or perhaps it was just used more) of the two. More of a dark charcoal gray than a pitch-black color and has somelight surface rust in some of the recessed areas on the back - visiblein photo #11. There is wear to the raised surfaces on top and the bottoms of the feet.In addition to the "W", there are also two hearts, one large, one small.No maker's name or ID numbers on this trivet. This measures about 8¼" long by nearly 4" wide by about 1" tall.Weight is about 7.6 ounces. The larger of the two trivets has a fancier design with a handle consistingof two hearts facing each other.This iron trivet is more of a true black color (stove paint maybe?).There is wear to the raised surfaces on the top and the bottoms ofthe feet ... plus a small area on the back where the black has rubbed or worn off (shown in photo #15).There is some surface rust in some of the deeper recessed areasof the design - shown in photos #16, #17, #18. No maker's name or ID numbers on this trivet. This measures about 8¾" long by just over 5" wide by about 1" tall.Weight is just over 1 pound.
