Description: This is a Vintage Brass Alligator Brooch, a Museum Reproduction of an Ancient Piece, crafted by ALVA Studios, New York.Information about ALVA Studios can be easily found online. Some of the information I found stated that the company was founded by Alfred Wolkenberg who immigrated to the US from Vienna, Austria. He founded the studio in Long Island City and employed artists and designers to design and craft reproductions of ancient sculpture and jewelry. ALVA Studio pieces were sold in many museum gift shops around the world. Since the company operated from 1948 to 1990, this piece would be at least about 28 years old and thus vintage. We do not know the age specifically.I found an attribution for one of these alligators as an ancient Egyptian reproduction, but since it is an alligator and not a crocodile, it seems like it must be a reproduction of an African piece instead. The back of the brooch is marked "© ALVA STUDIO REPRODUCTION".The maximum overall length including the tail and the width is 2 1/2" and the body and feet is 7/8".ALVA Studios pieces are very collectible, and this would be a nice addition to any collection of jewelry or ALVA reproductions.
