Vintage 1958 National Baron Electric Guitar & Gibson Les Paul Case, Valco

Description: Vintage 1958 National Baron Valco Val-Trol - RARE This guitar is in excellent original condition, with the exception of the WD repro pickguard and missing plastic neck heel cover (where the upper strap button is located,) there is no neck heel on this guitar due to its unusual patented neck to body mounting system. The neck joint is an unusual design and allows the fingerboard to float above the body, it also features a built-in bridge pick-up, perhaps the first of its kind. There are separate mini volume and tone controls for each pick-up, a selector switch and master volume controls. The one piece maple neck is worn in places, revealing an incredible flame beneath the finish. The neck is reminiscent of a Gibson LP from this period and has a chunky, beefy soft V shape. The built in bridge pick-up is really what sets this guitar apart, it delivers a jangly, acoustic tone that is completely unique to any other guitar from this period. Interestingly, this model is the only guitar featured in the Netflix documentary 'Keith Richards: Under The Influence' by The Rolling Stones guitar tech, Keiths National Baron is beat up compared to this one. It is also similar to the white Supro Dual Tone famously played by David Bowie, he added a bigsby to his, but you will note the Supro has the identical pick-up configuration including the built in bridge pick-up, not to be confused with the later 'Bowie' signature model reproduction which is not an accurate representation of the original vintage model. Supro was also manufactured by Valco and has similar models but were marketed under the Supro label, as was the Airline and Oahu labels. The Gibson case fits all Les Paul models but is slightly larger, so it may be a Marauder, Challenger or S1 case from the 1980's If you are looking for an affordable, rare vintage guitar that is completely unique to you (and Keith Richards!,) this is it, get it while you can!
