Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a nice older Turner S22X crystal microphone from the late 1940's to mid 1950's. This heavily deco inspired piece with satin chrome finish makes this one of the most widely recognized microphones ever produced. The 22 series came in several different styles over the years with the only changes coming in the lower half that carried the Turner badge and the type of element used. The 22 microphone either had the crystal element or the Dynamic element. All 22X's carried the crystal element which did not hold up as well over the past 70 years. It comes with the period Astatic E6G stand shown. You'll see in pic # 2 an old 1949 Turner advertisement showing specs and priced on these 40's era mics. You generally rarely find one that works well or works at all. This one sadly...is one of them but it's still quite pretty cosmetically speaking. This was the "S" model meaning it came with the on / off switch. it was the most expensive model of the 22X series and the switch still works as it should. This unit has the early lower half with flat front and rounded rear along with black Turner badge. The overall finish is very good and shows just minor scratches, scuff marks and tiny pitting. Zero dents or fractures. The front grill looks very nice too as does the inner black cloth screen. I would give a this mic a conservative 8 on a scale of 1 - 10. This would make a nice display in any collection of vintage early microphones. A true piece of Americana and a conversation piece anywhere it sits. The threading for the cable and mic stand are perfect. No issues. Solid inside and out this mic was built to last. MICROPHONE STAND IS PART OF THIS SALE... Microphone stand is a cast aluminum base E6G model with a painted wooden handle that compliments the S22X nicely. Due to the design and age they look like they belong to each other. The stand is an early 1940's / 50's Astatic model so it's just about period to the mic and certainly would have been used with an S22X at that time. The stem looks very good as does the base. The base separates from the handle if needed with a simple half turn of the handle. The riser stays on the mic and acts as a handle to carry the mic around. It was considered taboo to actually hold these older mics so the handle solved that dilemma. The E6G was a very practical choice for almost all microphones made at that time. The base has 3 pads to keep the base from scratching any surface it sits on. Total height with stand and mic is appx is 10 1/2 inches X 5 inches wide. As with all my vintage items... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
