VILLAS OF FLORENCE AND TUSCANY By HAROLD DONALDSON EBERLEIN 1922 1st

Description: There are 405 pages and 279 plates. The first portion of the book, about 82 pages, mixes text with photograph and the remainder of the book is primarily plates mixed in with a few pages of text here and there. This is the first printing by the Lippincott Company with 1922 on title page and a 1922 copyright. The forward is also dated 1922. Rough edged pages and a heavy volume. CONDITION:  This book definitely saw water along the edges. The edges of the boards, mostly the front, show fading due to what was highly likely to have been water contact. The first half dozen leaves have heavy foxing (SEE PHOTO 3 & 10), with the last half dozen leaves also showing foxing, but nothing as severe as the front. The front end paper has partial paper splitting in the gutter where it joins the paste down (photo 9) and there is an owner stamp on both the front and rear paste down and at least once within the book. The top section of many of the pages have foxing, as do the outer edge of many pages (consistent with PHOTOS 5-7)  with an occasional spot that shows up in different parts of the pages. Most of the book is free of spotting. The exposed page edges are discolored. Overall, the book remains stable and there is gorgeous photography. It was also owned by a world class architect, Dwight James Baum, who has a number of works listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Not quite good condition due to the staining of the exterior and heavier foxing to the first and last several leaves, but still a gorgeous book and very stable.  In the end, I would have to rate it fair but fully functional. 8   MEDIA MAIL: The USPS allows books, records and other media to be mailed at a cheaper price than typical mail. It tends to be a much slower mailing process than standard mail. In addition, any employee of the USPS can open the package at ANY time for ANY reason to verify that what is inside is what should be inside. In most cases, the item is properly repackaged but, in rare cases, it is not and an item can arrive damaged. As my feedback suggests, I package very carefully. If you receive a damaged item that has the appearance of having been poorly packaged, please contact me prior to leaving feedback so that it can be addressed. Listing and template services provided by inkFrog PLEASE NOTE: For book sales, I virtually always include a vinyl bag tightly wrapped on the exterior. This is an attempt to prevent any USPS employee from opening the package for inspection as it would be time consuming for them to repackage it. This is done simply because my packaging is done more carefully than their repackaging and also to protect the book from the elements. The vinyl bag covers cardboard protection and you can simply cut the bag open (carefully) and remove the contents. The cardboard protection is also typically held with tape and cutting in the obvious places will allow the cardboard to pop right open, exposing the book (in another protective vinyl bag). Using this method, you should be able to open any book I send in under a minute. No "buzz saw" is required. Thank you
