The 192nd Assault Helicopter Company was a unit of the United States Army that served during the Vietnam War. The unit was initially formed in 1965 at Fort Benning, Georgia and deployed to Vietnam later that year.The 192nd was primarily equipped with UH-1 Huey helicopters and was tasked with providing aerial support to ground troops in combat zones throughout South Vietnam. The unit also conducted a variety of other missions, including reconnaissance, medical evacuation, and transport of personnel and supplies.One of the most notable actions of the 192nd occurred in 1967 during the Battle of Dak To, a major engagement between US and North Vietnamese forces in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The 192nd played a key role in supporting ground troops during the battle, flying numerous sorties to evacuate wounded soldiers and deliver supplies and reinforcements to the front lines.The 192nd also operated in other areas of Vietnam, including the Mekong Delta and the northern regions near the border with Laos.
