Description: VERY RARE VINTAGE EMPRESS EUGENIE CITRINE PIN BROOCH NIB. This pin brooch has been stored in my closet for years. I purchased it because of the history of the brooch and my love of things from the Victorian Era. It is a replica of a brooch owned by Empress Eugenie, the last Empress of France. It has exquisite workmanship on the brooch in the form of flowers and leaves. It is probably plated with gold but I am not sure. It has three simulated yellow Citrine oval stones in the center. It is in the original steel velvet box with an information card about Empress Eugenia and a Certificate of Authenticity. This is how antique and vintage high end fine and costume jewelry was packaged. The covering for the brooch inside the box has begun to disintegrate (SEE LAST PHOTO) due to age. I will enclose in a plastic bag. Empress Eugenie was born on May 5, 1826 with Scottish and Spanish ancestry. She was a wonder of elegance when she became the wife of Napoleon III due to her red hair and love of things of beauty. She embraced the Neo-Classic Era/Victorian Era with extravagance and detail. During the reign of Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie, France was known for architectural revival, especially in Paris, with the completion of the Louvre, Palau’s of Justice, and Villa Eugenie (Today-Hotel du Palais)in Biarritz. She was greatly influenced by Queen Marie Antoinette and decorated her homes in revivals of the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. She was known as the empress “who was perhaps the last Royal personage to have a direct and immediate influence on fashion”; like Queen Victoria of England. Empress Eugenie set the standards for contemporary fashion at a time when the luxury fashion industries of Paris were flourishing. Gowns, colors, and hairstyles were copied from the empress throughout Europe and America. She was known for rotating her outfits and accessories throughout the day (morning, afternoon, evening, and night). She never wore the same outfit twice and required an enormous wardrobe and accessories (Jewels). She was known as the “Queen of Fashion” throughout the world. Her influence can be seen in Queen Victoria’s fashions, decorative style, and jewels. Empress Eugenie died in 1920 at the age of 94 but her fashion legacy lives on, like this brooch. This brooch is a rare example of her style in fashion and it was made in America. I am now retired and downsizing my own personal jewelry collection. This brooch is new in its original box with papers and it has been stored in my climate controlled smoke free home since purchasing. All of my items are authentic and were purchased from reputable retailers. Please look at all photos and ask all questions prior to purchasing as we do not accept returns. We do combine shipping, if possible. Thank you for looking and please save us as a seller for more treasures to come.
