Description: Here is a very neat specimen from a locality close to Weinheim that I have never seen a single specimen from, EVER! The specimen is a nice miniature size with excellent coverage of beautiful little cerussite crystals on a quartz-cerussite-limonite matrix. In close association and all over the specimen are small pyromorphite crystals, many of which have grown on the cerussite or stained the cerussite a light green. The label on the box says the green mineral is Notronite which has never been reported from this locality and has none of the characteristics that this specimen has or is associated with. Also on the matrix are some blebs of tetrahedrite-tennantite as well as some tiny malachite crystals. Quite a packed specimen for one that is not very large. This was collected in 1994 by an unknown collector. This is quite a historic locality with the mine having had production from 1486-1551. It also had a little production in the 1700s and mid 1800s. As far as I can tell, all production was from a single shaft. They mined a single 1/2 meter wide quartz vein that hosted lead and copper ores. In 1843, the mine became historically famous for its large 6 cm wide aggregates of malachite and remarkable dolomite crystals. Unfortunately, I have never seen any of these specimens that were found in local Odenwald natural history museums or otherwise. I grew up only a few kilometers up the hill from this mine but I never was aware that there was this historic mine so close.Amazing specimen and if you like historic German localities or oddball cerussite localities, this is a piece you don't want to miss out on because I only have one!! 3.5x3.4x0.8 cm
