Description: Extremely rare and charming antique Rose O'Neill standing patriotic Kewpie figurine dressed as "Uncle Sam". Unusually large, fired in flesh-colored bisque with blush highlights, featuring the characteristic tiny blue wings on the shoulders. The figure has a one-piece molded body and head, with jointed arms. It wears white painted socks and black Mary Jane-style shoes. The "O'Neill" signature is incised on the bottom. Black wide eyes with a white dot, glancing to the right, tiny dabbed eyebrows, a watermelon-shaped smiling mouth, and a tiny pug nose. The figure features deeply molded and painted tufts of hair at the top, sides, and back of the head. He is wearing a complete original Uncle Sam-type patriotic outfit, featuring a blue felt long-tailed jacket, a blue and white cotton vest with printed stars, a white felt shirt collar, a red silk bow tie, red and white striped trousers, and a light gray felt top hat with printed cotton hatband.Made in Germany, most likely by J.D. Kestner (JDK), circa 1915. Dimensions: Height: 6½ inches (16.5 cm) without the hat. Overall height: 7 inches (17 cm) Condition: This piece features very nice coloring in bisque and is in nearly flawless condition, with no cracks, hairlines, chips, or repairs of any kind. The vest and hatband are somewhat faded, and the trousers have yellowed slightly. None of these flaws detract from the beauty and rarity of this highly desirable piece, which is otherwise in excellent overall condition!
