Thin layers can take a few weeks to dry, thick layers can take a month or longer! - You can use added driers like alkyd or cobalt drier to combat this or simply stick to painting in a flat manner! V Black is my take on a jet black oil paint. Deeper than just about any other carbon black on the market, this is a truly JET BLACK oil paint that you can really fall into. This color is based on a nano carbon black pigment which gives its jet black color. The downside to this jet black pigment is that it is extremely slow drying. To combat the extremely slow drying time of this pigment it is milled entirely in sun-thickened linseed oil and I also add some PBK26 (Manganese Ferrite Black Spinel) which is a deep grayish black color that has a fast drying time when used on its own. Even with these measures to reduce the drying time, it is still a very slow drying paint- the payoff is an incredibly jet black paint resembling a void. Due to being mulled entirely in sun thickened linseed oil and due to requiring a large amount of oil to wet the fine particle size of the jet carbon pigment the paint has a syrupy texture. Due to the texture of the paint and the drying time I recommend that you use this paint in flat applications (avoid attempting to use this paint for impasto due to the levelling properties of the paint and its very slow drying times). Typically when paint manufacturers make jet black oil paints they add in things like a cobalt drier/ some sort of spirit to speed the drying time but I have not done this in favor of keeping my entire paint line non-toxic and as artist friendly as possible. As mentioned above, I have used Sun thickened linseed oil and PBk26 as my nontoxic "drying agents.". This color is entirely consistent with my entire handmade paint lineup- nontoxic, lightfast, and durable! This Black paint is an opaque, slightly brownish undertone in tints JET Black. Has a syrupy/ levelling consistency. This color compliments well with my V-White (which is formulated to be a less yellowing bright White).
