Description: Our company produces custom-made wristwatches with genuine remanufactured Swiss Unitas 6498 movements using 100% certified Unitas parts. Collectors recognize high-end 6498 manual winding movements for their reliability and ease of service. Since 2015, ETA restricted the sale of their movements to firms outside of the Swatch Group, Ltd including Panerai long known for their deployment of Unitas products prior to World War II. The preowned market became the only way to buy quality Swiss movements such as this Unitas. Custom high-end watches can vary widely, from aesthetic changes like dial and case modifications, to more technical alterations, so it's important to choose a watchmaker who can provide the highest level of service available. Our watchmaster, Theodore Tongson, specializes in high-end watches with Swiss complications. We feel that it's crucial to consider the reputation and experience of the watchmaker. Unitas This Unitas 6498 a Swiss-made mechanical manual wind movement began production in the 1960's. Originally designed for small hunter pocket watch cases, People often referred to as a "pocket watch movement" until Panerai incorporated it into their wristwatch line. You will find it in many diving models from various manufacturers. The Unitas 6498 has a reputation for its robust nature and reliability. It's measures16.5 lignes (36.6mm) across and 4.5mm deep. The movement's size has influenced the trend towards larger watches, as watch cases grew to accommodate this sized caliber. The Unitas 6498 and its sibling, the 6497, differ in architecture, most notably in the different locations of the subsidiary seconds. The 6497's small seconds are at 9 o'clock, opposite the crown, while the 6498's small seconds are at 6 o'clock, with the crown at 3. Many brands have used Unitas including American brands Bulova and Hamilton and European flavors from Alpina to Zeno. Unitas merged with ETA and the Swatch Group, Ltd. in 1985. Unitas' versatility and technical specifications have made it a favorite among watchmakers, from those creating entry-level watches to those crafting high horology pieces. The movement's expansive landscape of bridges and plates also provide an expressive canvas for artistically inclined watchmakers. In short, the Unitas 6498 provides a highly versatile and reliable movement that has stood the test of time and continues to be a popular choice in the watch industry. The Dial The term "California Dial" originated after a dial refinisher in the state became well-known for applying the popular half-Arabic, half-Roman design to dials submitted to it. Originally, the Panerai created watches with this dial during World War II to aid legibility in low-light combat conditions. After the war, the style faded away until it was popularized in the 1980s economic boom in Japan. California dealers in the 1980’s sold so many watches with this dial variant that the dials inherited the name. In 1941, Rolex filed a patent for a very specific dial design and was granted the patent on July 15, 1942. The patent document states that the patent is for the invention of a timepiece dial with hour markers made up of Roman numerals and Arabic numerals. The dial layout was half-Arabic and half-Roman numerals, conceived to create added legibility under water and in the dark. In 1934, Rolex started making developmental watches featuring the California Dial in highly recognizable pieces such as the Ref. 3595 bubble back.
