Description: On November 1, 1987 Miami became the seventh Florida city to be served by USAir. Inaugural service consisted of nonstop flights from USAir’s three busiest hubs, Cleveland (one daily round trip), Philadelphia (two daily round trips), and Pittsburgh (two daily round trips).Boeing 737-300 equipment was used on all of the inaugural flights.Few first flight covers were carried because of the short notice provided by the USPS. This cover was one of approximately 125 pieces of mail carried on the inaugural USAir flight from the Miami, Florida Airport Mail Facility to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (where it was backstamped) and is listed in The American Air Mail Catalogue as AL-D97Nf. On February 14, 2013, US Airways Group and AMR Corporation announced that the two companies would merge to form the largest airline in the world. The combined airline carries the American Airlines name.
