Description: ORIGINAL LATE INDIAN WAR TO SPANISH AMERICAN WAR US CAVALRY LINKSTRAP IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. THIS LINK STRAP IS MARKED WITH THE NUMBER "61" THE TROOPER NUMBER. THERE IS NO OTHER MARKING REMAINING. NOTE THEY ARE NO SLIDING KEEPER. I BELIEVE THIS TYPE OF LINK STRAP WAS MOST OFTEN USED WITHOUT IT. THIS IS A BLACK STRAP WITH A BRASS HOOK AND AN IRON CLIP FOR FASTENING THE STRAP TO THE NEXT HORSE'S BIT. THE LEATHER IS DRY BUT LIVELY WITH SOME SURFACE CRAZING AND SHOWING FIELD USE. IT IS NOT FRAGILE TO HANDLE. IT WILL NEED YOUR FAVORITE LEATHER TREATMENT TO REGAIN SOME FLEXIBILITY.The linkstrap was issued to every trooper. One end with the loop was fastened to the bottom ring of the bit and the snap was fastened to the bridle upper cheek buckle. When fighting dismounted, one trooper held 4 horses. Each snap would be clipped to the next horse free bottom bit ring.
