Description: This is a poster stamp issued to commemorate the use of the atomic bomb in World War 2. The first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb, the Enola Gay, was piloted by Colonel Paul W. Tibbets and targeted Hiroshima, Japan. A second bomb was later dropped on Nagasaki. This led to the surrender of Japan to the Allies in World War 2 in August of 1945. The stamp is based on a design created for use by the United States Postal Service in their series of WWII 50th Anniversary sheets, but the USPS stamp was rescinded after protests from the Japanese government in 1994. The original design denominated 00 USA is shown for illustrative purposes only and is not included since it was never issued. The item you are bidding on is a cinderella stamp in mint, never hinged condition as issued in 1995. It was not issued by the USPS and is not valid for postage. It was created by Ex-Marine Gerry Newhouse of Columbus, Ohio, with the aid of Robert Littlehale, also of Columbus. They added a B-29 bomber (similar to the Enola Gay that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima) where the 32/USA denomination would have been, and changed the caption to “Atomic bombs end WW II”.
