Description: Unusual large oil portrait of a woman, signed Celaya Winkler, bottom left corner. Research shows the artist painted in Hollywood as part of an artist colony, later worked for 30 years as at artist for Disney, and subsequently became known for being a "clairvoyant" artist. This painting appears to be c. 1940's or 1950's so would likely have been prior to her work for Disney. The actual canvas (painted portion) measures 3 inches less that the frame measurements (25 3/8 inches by 28 1/4 inches). The frame originally must have held a Marc Chagall painting because in light pencil you can read Red House and Marc Chagall on the top back of the frame. Although I found many of the artist's later works online, I did not find a signature for comparison, but from what research I found and the signature, I think this is one of her mid-century portraits. She was known for her portraits of Hollywood figures. I do not know who is the subject of this painting. It possibly could be a self portrait. I found photos of the artist online and they seemed somewhat similar. The subject is smiling, yet the feeling I get is somewhat unsettling, mostly due to the way the eyes are cut to one side, and the lifelike size of the painting. Buyer to pay $50 shipping. I will package carefully and ship promptly.
