Hardbound in very good+ condition with dust jacket, 105 pages includes a FOREWORD, HISTORICAL NOTE and Glossary of SOME UNFAMILIAR HAWAIIAN WORDS, measures approximately 7” x 9 ¼”. The boards are covered in teal colored cloth with titles and graphic blind stamped in gold, black and orange. They are impeccably clean with a bit of rounding of the lower points and superficial wear at the ends of the spine. The contents present printed end papers front and rear, firmly bound, printed on heavy weight quality stock. The block is clean, firmly bound, no loose or misaligned pages. Modest age toning is noted with a couple foxing spots but no ownership indications, no marks, creases or tears. UMI is a lovely children’s book written by well-known 1930s Author/Artist Robert Lee Eskridge. He relates this historical Hawaiian story specifically including the Menehunes in his tale. Included are a series of breathtaking block print type illustrations that never fail to fascinate both young and old alike. There are 9 double page presentations, of which 6 are brilliantly colored complimented by numerous single page and partial page decorations.One of a very limited number of outstanding children’s books produced around the 1930s, UMI has been reprinted on several occasions and has become truly a collector’s item as much for the art work as the story.
